What Does MLM Stand For?

May 04, 2010 By: Marty Category: MLM Articles

Ever wondered what MLM stands for? Don’t be embarrassed, a lot of people don’t know the answer. Even though it’s commonly used term, there are many people who don’t know the correct definition.

MLM Stands for “Multi-Level Marketing.”

It’s an acronym commonly associated with the Network Marketing (sometimes called the “Direct Selling”) Industry. Whether you’re a network marketer yourself or not, there’s a great chance that you’ve heard the acronym several times.

But perhaps the better question is:

What Is An MLM Business?

An MLM business is a home business model that allows the franchise owners to market products or services directly to the customers, rather than selling through retail outlets. The advantage is that because there is no middleman retail markup, the business owner makes a hearty commission from each sale.

What’s more is that the business owner can recruit other people to join the system by starting their own similar businesses, and by doing so actually create a downline for the original business person.

When someone in your downline makes a sale, you make a commission from that sale too! Granted it’s not usually as large as a direct sale (one you made yourself), but it’s money in your pocket – money you didn’t have to do anything to earn!

Ever heard of the phrase “Passive Income?” This is it. Making money without putting in the effort. Waking up and finding out that your downline is already earning you money is one of the greatest joys in the financial world.
